Early Years Design Guide

Physical spaces hold the potential to influence what and how children learn

To achieve successful learning environments, the teacher, teaching and learning space need to work together.

Our Early Years Birth to Year 2 Design Guide supports the development of learning environments that respond to the needs of the learner and the learning community.

Developing a common language

There are specific qualities that are key elements to successful design and the development of early years learning environments.

The Design Guide supports the development of a common language and understanding around these qualities. This helps to everyone involved in the process—students, staff, the school community and consultants—to understand the outcomes required to deliver successful learning environments.

Whether it’s a new design or an upgrade, internal or external space, the guide will ensure everyone involved from planning to delivery are working together to support early learning within Catholic education.
