The intent of the It Takes a Spark Grok Academy STEM Conference is to bring together Students (Year 4 to 10) and Teachers to connect with inspiring industry role models, share their current school based activities and projects using an authentic sharing and experiential model, create networks of teachers and student teams, and solve social justice design challenges.
The 2023 conference theme is to highlight how STEM is at the heart of innovation and learning in every discipline and is used (mostly unconsciously) by everyone everyday. This is not about the acronym but about the thinking, mindsets and skills that STEM engenders.
When: Friday, 1 September 2023
Where: Guilford Young College, Glenorchy
Time: 8:45 am to 2:45 pm
Find out more information and register online at: https://spark-educonferences.com.au/tasmania-2023/
Each conference opens with an inspiring keynote on the theme of being someone who makes a difference using the skills inherent in STEAM & Entrepreneurship (creativity, innovation, problem solving, critical thinking, courage).
Keynote speakers for 2023 will include:
The keynote is followed by two rotations of concurrent teacher mini-masterclasses and hands-on digidesign sessions for students and teachers. There will also be concurrent problem solvers sessions where students and teachers will work together to solve real life design or STEM challenges. A teacher networking and pathways session is organised during the day to encourage connections between schools, industry, organisations and sponsors.
