Catholic Education Tasmania will launch a brand-new Five Day Kinder program at St Patrick’s Catholic School in Latrobe from 2025, providing a boost to educational achievement for young students and a helping hand to families.
Five Day Kinder provides a seamless transition from the early learning years to the formal schooling years, and also allows working families the option of having their child educated and cared for, for up to five days a week.
“Families are able to decide if their child will attend three, four or five days of Kinder a week - and on the weekdays of their choosing - with the idea being that they will progress to the full five days by the end of the year,” Cameron Brown, Deputy Executive Director of System Resources at Catholic Education Tasmania said.
St Patrick’s Principal Carmen Aylott said that the early years were so important and harnessing them provided even more learning opportunities.
“Children attending Five Day Kinder will have more regular exposure to informal and structured-learning opportunities, such as the development of oral language skills, pre-literacy and numeracy education, as well as play-based learning,” Mrs Aylott said.
“Five Day Kinder can help to support the development of their social, mental and physical skills before they transition into the school environment.”
Five Day Kinder is also a cost-effective alternative to child care, opening doors for working parents and carers.
“Because traditional Kinder is only three days a week, having the option of a Five Day Kinder means that parents can work the hours that they need on the days that they need,” Mrs Aylott said.
Catholic Education Tasmania’s announcement of their fifth Five Day Kinder program is aligned with their intention of supporting the vital early years of pre-school and school-based education.
“We are committed to providing an outstanding destination for educating the region’s children over the coming generations,” Mr Brown said.
