Starting Catholic school life as a six-year-old at the then Stella Maris, now known as Star of the Sea Catholic College, working in Catholic education was not something Kathleen Baker expected.

“I completed Year 10 in 1979, never thinking that I would find myself back there in 1990, as the parent of a Prep child and another child, following in 1992.”

Volunteering in her daughter’s Prep class lead to an offer she couldn’t refuse.

“I must have made an impression on the Prep teacher, as she asked if I would be interested in some paid work as a Teacher’s Aide."

“25 years on, I remain a staff member at ‘Star of the Sea College’ and owe many thanks to that particular staff member and friend, for seeing the potential in me and setting me off on a journey that changed my life.”

“I can honestly say, that I wake up every day and look forward to going to work.”

“My days are filled with variety, stimulating conversation, happy and contented children, supportive and caring colleagues, all which contribute to making my working days rewarding and enjoyable.”

Working as a Teacher’s Aide has given Kathleen the opportunity to be engaged in many aspects of the College whilst building relationships with staff and students along the way.

“I have enjoyed working with students from all walks of life and there have been many, who have impacted my life and enriched it, without even knowing.”

“I hope that pastoral care is always paramount and that we continue to strengthen relationships with students, families and the wider communities.”
