St Thomas Aquinas Teaching Schools

We are excited to announce that positions for our 2024 Cadet cohort have now been filled!

We look forward to receiving further expressions of interest from 1 May 2024.

Catholic Education Tasmania provides innovative pre-service support and formation for our future teachers through the St Thomas Aquinas Teaching Schools Institute. Each school week, more than fifty selected education undergraduates receive a day's paid placement in CET classrooms with a mentor teacher, while studying for their degrees online. They also attend a paid full day of additional tuition and formation per week to prepare them for their work as graduates in our schools.

The program is aimed at Tasmanian school leavers, young adults, and mature aged students who seek a vocation in Catholic education after their degree.

The Degrees that are accepted as part of this program include a Bachelor of Education (Primary), a Bachelor of Education (Secondary): four years full-time, and a Master of Teaching (Primary) and Master of Teaching (Secondary): two years full-time.

This mode of teacher development flips the conventional model of teacher training, by putting you in the classroom from day one of your degree in a paid partnership with Catholic Education Tasmania

At the end of your Cadetship, you will have had the opportunity to acquire up to 350 days of school-based experience, complete your degree, and attain your A, B and C Catholic Accreditation requirements for teaching Religious education in Catholic Schools.

Once we receive your expression of interest, if you meet the initial candidate requirements, we will send you out an application pack which you need to complete to be considered for interview.

Our aim is to support you through the application process, so please contact us if we can help in any way.
