Arrangements for Sacred Heart Catholic School Geeveston

The following is an announcement from Sacred Heart Catholic School Principal Mr Luch Brighella regarding arrangements for students who attend Sacred Heart.

Dear Members of the Sacred Heart School Community,

I am writing to update families on arrangements that we are putting in place for our students returning to school.

Given the most recent information received from the Tasmanian Fire Service advising that the current fire situation will continue for a number of weeks, Sacred Heart Catholic School will be closed for the next four weeks to ensure that all members of our school community are safe.

To ensure that our students do not miss out on valuable learning opportunities, Sacred Heart Catholic School students will be relocated to the following sites as follows:

  1. Ranelagh: Using St Mary’s Catholic Church to cater for the majority of our students from Geeveston to Mountain River
  2. Dover: Using the Sailing Club and nearby holiday accommodation; Castaway Cottage for students at Dover and from surrounding areas between Southport and Waterloo

At this stage, Tuesday 12 February will be our official start day for students.

We will also be providing parents with an option for students to return Thursday 7 February if that better suits the needs of your family.

Kindergarten students will commence on Wednesday 13 February, so that we can ensure that our new learning environments are well established to support these students commencing school for the first time.

Sacred Heart will be running all of its bus services to ensure that students are safely transported to/from their alternative school sites.

In order to support students, staff and families, additional personnel will be at our new sites and counselling services will also be available.

With many families affected by having to evacuate and bear additional expenses, please be reassured that the school will endeavour to support families during this challenging time.

Some parents have enquired about uniforms. We will advise further on this, and if your child doesn’t have their uniform for the start of the year, then that is fine.

If your family has relocated to another part of the state, your children are very welcome to attend at any of our Catholic Schools around Tasmania. If your child needs to attend another Catholic School, please make contact with their school office.

We will be sending out a short online questionnaire for parents to complete in the next day or so. Your input will help us with our planning for our new school sites and return to school. We will also advise families further as more information becomes available.

Thanking you in anticipation of your support for these necessary arrangement.
